Background
Founded in 2022, Mnemo Therapeutics is a biotechnology company specialising in innovative cell therapies that target cancer using a unique antigen identification technology. Mnemo Therapeutics has identified specific and recurring cancer antigens, paving the way for new, safer and more effective treatments.
The company also focuses on developing treatments for auto-immune and inflammatory diseases, while exploring new strategies for treating chronic diseases and preventing relapses.
To further its research on the mechanisms underpinning the formation and progression of various types of cancer, Mnemo Therapeutics needs ta cell sorter and has chosen the Beckman Cytoflex SRT. This equipment needs to be contained under a class II biological hood.
Stakes
This class II biological hood is essential in protecting handling operations and operators against the risks of contamination when using the cell sorter. The restricted space in the laboratory nevertheless makes installation of bulky equipment complicated. As a result, Mnemo Therapeutics and Beckman had to find a third partner to facilitate the intervention and install the future equipment. The cytometer manufacturer had already worked with Erlab on similar projects, and naturally presented Erlab’s solutions to Mnemo Therapeutics.
The Erlab solution
Erlab recommended the class II H.Box biological hood, a model design based on a type II MSC that meets the requirements of the EN12469-2000 standard.
This type II hood is specially designed to offer optimum biological protection and adapted ergonomics:
- the sliding worktop provides easy access to the cell sorter for adjustment and maintenance purposes;
- the touchscreen controls facilitate use and allow users to track the operation of the device in real time;
- the built-in PC support arm optimises the work space and helps make the lab less cluttered;
- the spacious working area, specially designed to accommodate the cytometer, means that the operator and cell sorting process enjoy effective protection.
The result
The H.Box hood fits perfectly, despite limited space in the lab. It offers optimum protection and ergonomics, facilitating access to the cell sorter.
Despite initial fears concerning the temperature inside the hood, the XXL work space and good air circulation helped to maintain the appropriate temperature for handling operations and reassured Mnemo Therapeutics with regard to their investment.
This solution enabled the lab to perform more complex handling operations while ensuring the safety of its staff.
